Honoring the Sacred Feminine: A Mother’s Day Reflection

  • May 13
  • 6 min read

The Sacred Feminine is not just a role—it’s an energy that flows through us all. Whether or not we are mothers, we each embody aspects of this divine energy, and Mother's Day is a beautiful opportunity to reflect on how we honor and nurture that part of ourselves.

Motherhood is often celebrated through biological connections, but it’s important to recognize all the ways the Sacred Feminine expresses itself in the world—through the nurturing energy of mentors, friends, and even the creative acts we perform. The power of the feminine extends beyond giving birth to children; it encompasses the ways we nourish dreams, relationships, and our own self-growth.

Yet for centuries, feminine energy has been repressed and misunderstood. Now is the time to honor it fully—both in ourselves and in others. By reclaiming our connection to the Sacred Feminine, we can heal generations of imbalance and step into a more empowered, radiant version of ourselves.

The Origins of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day, as we know it today, has its roots in both ancient and modern traditions. The concept of honoring mothers and mothering figures can be traced back to ancient cultures, where celebrations honoring motherhood and maternal goddesses were held.

In ancient Greece, for example, people honored Rhea, the mother of the gods, with festivals dedicated to maternal figures. In the UK, “Mothering Sunday” was traditionally a day for people to return to their “mother church,” but it also evolved into a day where children would give gifts to their mothers as a symbol of gratitude.

However, the Mother’s Day we celebrate today in the United States was largely influenced by the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who campaigned for a national day of remembrance for mothers after the death of her own mother in the early 1900s. Jarvis wanted to create a day where people could show appreciation for the sacrifices and unconditional love that mothers often provide. After much advocacy, the holiday was officially recognized in the U.S. in 1914, and its message of honoring the nurturing role of mothers quickly spread around the world.

Motherhood as a Portal to Radiant Rebirth

Motherhood and Radiant Rebirth are deeply intertwined concepts, as both represent the process of transformation, growth, and renewal. The journey of motherhood calls for constant evolution—letting go of old identities, embracing change, and stepping into new versions of ourselves. This mirrors the process of Radiant Rebirth, where we release outdated beliefs and make room for new ways of thinking, living, and being.

For many, motherhood can be a catalyst for Radiant Rebirth—an awakening to new capacities within ourselves. It is a journey of profound transformation, where we shed old fears, release past patterns, and embrace new roles with courage and grace. Through the challenges and joys of nurturing another, mothers often discover reserves of love, strength, and wisdom they never knew they had.

Much like the phases of motherhood, Radiant Rebirth is cyclical. It doesn’t happen all at once—it unfolds over time, through different seasons of life. Each phase of motherhood, whether it’s the quiet moments of bonding with a newborn or the challenges of guiding a teenager, offers its own opportunity for growth and transformation. The ability to flow with the cycles of life and embrace change is a hallmark of both motherhood and Radiant Rebirth.

Just as a mother nurtures and heals her child, Radiant Rebirth invites us to heal ourselves. In both cases, healing is not only about tending to the body but also about soothing the soul. Many of us didn’t feel mothered in the ways we needed as children. This is an opportunity to mother ourselves—to nurture our emotional needs, practice self-care, and offer love and compassion to our inner selves.

The Goddess Within: Embracing the Sacred Feminine

The sacred feminine is embodied in motherhood, but it is not exclusive to it. It’s in the nurturing, the intuition, and the wisdom that mothers and non-mothers alike carry. This energy connects us to the cycles of the earth and to the divine. When we tap into this sacred energy, we experience Radiant Rebirth, allowing ourselves to step fully into our feminine power and create the life we desire, from the inside out.

While some of us may nurture children, others may nurture ideas, communities, or our own spiritual growth. Creativity flows through every woman, and we are all capable of rebirthing ourselves into new and empowered versions of who we are meant to be. The act of creation—whether it be through art, innovation, relationships, or personal evolution—is an expression of the Sacred Feminine.

Some of the great goddesses embodying this mothering energy include:

  • Gaia, the Greek goddess of the earth, who represents the nurturing, life-giving forces of nature.

  • Kuan Yin, the Chinese goddess of compassion, who offers unconditional love and care to all beings.

  • Demeter, the Greek mother goddess, who teaches us about the power of loss, renewal, and devotion.

  • Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of abundance, who nurtures prosperity and well-being in all areas of life.

Even if we have not experienced motherhood in the traditional sense, we each have the capacity to nurture, protect, and guide others—whether through mentorship, friendship, or community. The mothering archetype exists in all of us, and it is through this nurturing energy that we experience Radiant Rebirth.

Personal Reflection

I have experienced Mother’s Day in many roles—daughter, daughter-in-law, and mother. I have given birth to humans, to ideas, and most recently, to an online community that I nurture every day. Motherhood, in all its forms, has deepened my appreciation for being a woman and for the many ways women shape and sustain the world.

Giving birth to my four children introduced me to a love so pure it reshaped my understanding of what it means to give. While many relationships have contributed to my growth, my children hold a unique place in that journey. They have challenged me, stretched my perspective, and pushed me to see the world—and myself—differently. It took me a while to embrace that challenge with grace, but looking back, I see how much they have shaped me.

As a daughter, I now hold greater compassion for my own mother and the limited models she had to navigate her role. I’m also deeply grateful to my mother-in-law, who offered me a different perspective on motherhood. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed and learned from so many nurturing women, each influencing how I have come to understand not just motherhood, but also my own sacred femininity.

If you’ve attended any of my masterclasses, you know that I once found myself on a path where I no longer recognized the woman staring back at me in the mirror. I wasn’t the mother I wanted to be, the wife I wanted to be, or the woman I aspired to be. That realization was the spark that ignited my Radiant Rebirth. At the time, it felt like I was on a speeding ocean liner, heading toward disaster. Slowing down and shifting course wasn’t immediate—it took effort, awareness, and time. But once I found my bearings, I picked up momentum in the right direction. I could finally see her—the mother and the woman I truly wanted to be.

Honoring the Sacred Feminine This Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day, take a moment to honor the Sacred Feminine within you. Whether or not you have children, this is a day to celebrate the ways you nurture and create in the world. Here are a few ways to honor this energy:

  • Self-Care Rituals: Treat yourself to a nourishing practice, whether it’s a warm bath, meditation, or time in nature.

  • Light a Candle: Symbolically honor the nurturing energy within you by lighting a candle in gratitude for all the ways you give and receive care.

  • Reflect on Your Own Journey: Write in a journal about the ways you have embodied the Sacred Feminine in your life—through love, creativity, or personal growth.

  • Give Thanks to the Women Who Have Nurtured You: Whether they are mothers, friends, teachers, or mentors, take a moment to express gratitude for those who have shaped your path.
